Hong Kong, known by some as the Oriental Pearl, is a special and amazing place for many people. For 100 years, it was an british colony where it transformed from a little fishing village to one of the largest financial banking sector in the world.
In 1998, the control of Hong Kong, which occupies only on 1104 square kilometers of land on the southeast side of Hong Kong with a population of 7 million people was given back to China where it continued to develop into one of the top 10 financial sectors of the world.
The majority of people in Hong Kong speak Cantonese, but as China’s influence in Hong Kong grows, so does its official language of Mandarin. However, many people can also speak English in Hong Kong because of the heavy influence of England through the years.
Other than the Chinese, there are many British people who live in Hong Kong as well as people from Indonesia and Philippines who came here to work. As a matter of fact, tourists can go to Central to see many Philippino workers who come to meet every Sunday.
Hong Kong is truly a city that never sleeps. With an incredible number of businesses that open very late, everyone in Hong Kong don’t need to worry about being bored! In fact, there are so many things to do that people from Hong Kong even walks faster than everyone else! One special area on the Hong Kong Island called Soho hosts many bars and pubs where Hong Kongians can enjoy the company of their friends over a few beers.
The city is also known for its incredible shopping. You will see shops everywhere as you walk along the street from one place to the next with all sorts of merchandise for you to choose. The great thing about having so many shops is that it is attractively priced!
Wonderfully situated by a habor, Hong Kong restaurants can serve many types of fresh seafood for tourist and residents alike. Again, because of heavy competition, only the best tasting restaurants survive in this wonderful city and that’s one of the reasons why all types of food is great in Hong Kong. As a tourist, you can literally walk into any restaurant and taste great food.
Whether it’s the day or night time, Hong Kong is truly a gem to live in or go for a visit. If you haven’t been to this wonderful and open city, I highly recommend planning a trip there!
