Measures To Take When Involved In A Car Accident

If you drive a vehicle, you can expect to get into a fender bender eventually. It’s important to maintain your car insurance to make those occasions less stressful.

Experiencing your first minor car accident can by scary. The stress it puts you under can make you confused and unsure how to react. To avoid such distress, it’s good to know what to do beforehand.

Next, turn on your car’s hazard lights to warn other vehicles. Call the police right away. Depending on the municipality, police may or many not arrive, unless injuries are involved. If police do come make sure you get a copy of the police report. A police report is important when it comes time to contact insurance companies.

Another important step is to exchange contact information with the other driver. Take down their name, phone number, insurance company, policy number, driver’s license number and license plate number.

You may also want to jot down the make, model, year and color of the other vehicle involved. When you are talking to the other driver, don’t make any admission of guilt. The police will decide who’s at fault.

Another good idea would be to take pictures of the cars if you have a camera or camera phone at the ready. Take pictures before the cars are moved. Call your insurance agent as soon as soon as you can so they can begin processing your claim.

These precautions can make getting through an accident less stressful. It will make what comes next go more smoothly and let you breathe a little easier.
