Going Sport Fishing In Mexico

The oceans off of the Mexican coast are full of a variety of fish species appealing to any kind of fisherman. Fishing is a very popular hobby for anyone visiting and living in Mexico. Swimming in the Mexican waters are fish like Marlin, Wahoo, Tarpon, Snook, and the beautiful Sailfish. The best fish to catch in Mexico are considered by many the best fish to catch in the world.

One of the most popular fish in Mexico for fishermen is the Blue Marlin. This type of Marlin weighs the most and is larger than any of the other kinds. Blue Marlin are hard to bring in as their jump has a high range and they fight hard. The best time to fish for Blue, Black, or Striped Marlin is between September and November with the peak being in October.

The Black Marlin looks very similar to the Blue Marlin, with the only physical difference being that the blue strip along its back is much darker. Black Marlin are a lot harder to find and put up a much bigger fight. Reeling in one of these fish can take hours and can very easily result in a loss of the fish.

In the fall the largest of the Sailfish are the most abundant, but can also be found throughout the year. With its expert leaps, the beautiful Sailfish is a fun catch for sport fishermen. This type of fish is easier to reel because they get tired easily. Kite fishing from boats, or trolling with live bait or lures are both ways to conquer these fish.

During summer, Wahoo are common in Mexico’s oceans. Wahoo can be found far out in the ocean or closer in among the reefs. This fish hunts puffers, squid, tuna, and small mackerel.

Another type of fish to catch in Mexico is Snook. Snook can also be found all over Central America. Being cold-blooded animals as most fish are, they are sensitive to temperature. The deeper more open waters are home to the bigger Snook.

Tarpon are another kind of fish found in the ocean off of Mexico. They are more commonly found in the more shallow waters. Fishermen have noted that fishing for Tarpon is one of the best kinds of experiences due to the Tarpon’s leaping ability to shake the hook. Tarpon is not an easy catch with only 1 out of 5 hooks being successful on average.

Fishing off the coast of Mexico is one of the most exciting experiences all year long. There are many species of fish in these waters that appeal to fishermen looking for a fun experience, a big challenge, or a unique catch.
