Failing To Name A Driver

According to our legal system, failing to name the driver of your vehicle when it has an accident is a greater crime than being in the accident while driving the car yourself!

Several cases are stuck in court when people fail to name their drivers, and though it might seem a very brave thing to do, it is seriously foolish decision! Accidents are quite common happenings, and though serious sometimes, even the best drivers really cant avoid them.

It is quite a common happenstance that drivers flee from the accident spot after causing an accident ” especially if the accident is a serious one. The car is then traced back to the owner, whose responsibility it is to identify the driver or else he or she is liable for two charges, one is failing to name the driver, and the other is the accident itself.

Many people dont even know the address of their drivers, and the only contact is a mobile phone number, which can just be disposed off in a trash can! The police department says that there are thousands of cases each year when the owner of the car wants to protect his friend who has actually caused the accident, and claim that they dont know who has taken the car out. But most of these cases are proven with the help of someone else at the crime scene and the offending driver is fined for the accident and the owner is convicted for failing to name the driver ” and the latter carries a higher degree of punishment!
