Mexico stretches over 1000 square miles of Coastline along the pacific coast , reaching all the way from Guatemala up to the northwestern Border near California. The majority of the Coast was largely small fishing villages until about 1925, because a newly-built road had brought many tourists.

Many Fancy hotels popped up in Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco, and both became very famous in the 60’s when Richard Burton and Liz Taylor made a flick called Night of the Iguana and spend money on a resort by the water .

The Government of Mexico pushed (quite heavily), the promotion of making motels and resorts around the middle of the seventies . They named the stretch of land between Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta ‘Costa de Oro’ which means ‘Gold Coast’ . The full stretch, which is known as the Mexican Riviera (To the Cruise Industry in the USA) is famous for it’s wonderful scenery of golden beaches, jungle flora and picturesque cliffs

Mexican Riviera Cruises are one of the main cruises in Mexico, people travel from all over the globe to experience the mind-blowing scenery in Mexico. The American Cruise industry is forever in debt to the Mexican Riviera. The Tourist Friendly and amazingly scenic towns along the Riviera were the main backdrop for the soppy show that everyone used to love “THE LOVE BOAT”. It made towns like Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta famous in The United States of America and around the world .

Nowadays, The Riviera of Mexico is so popular ; it comes up against the big guns of cruise like the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Pacific. It’s very accessible to the American Public and reasonably affordable. The Mexican Riviera has built a flawless reputation amongst holiday buffsand cruise ship nutters so much that it’s become the fourth most popular cruise destination in the whole world.

The Mexican Riviera is one of those places that EVERY American should see, to read more about the Mexican Riviera, go to: http://www.rivercruiseboat.com/mexican-riviera-cruises.html

Mexico is most well known for its beautiful beaches. The glitzy resorts of Cancun and Cozumel offer a wide range of sporting activities. Extreme adventurers though tend to prefer travelling to lesser known places, avoiding the crowds and getting to experience the countries natural treasures while partaking in their favorite adventure sport. Mexico has some fantastic adventure destinations where you can enjoy a variety of activities. Here’s a brief outline of some of the places and activities on offer:

Rock Climbing

El Protrero Chico is a craggy limestone outcrop located just northwest of Monterrey. It’ll take about an hour to drive there by road and at the base of the crag is a climbers’ lodge and campsite where you can settle in for your stay. There are more than 600 bolted sport routes of varying grades. The advantage of this is that the routes are seldom crowded. As a local sport, rock climbing has not really taken off yet in Mexico and most of the climbers visiting El Protreto Chico are from the U.S., Canada and Europe. The limestone rocks provide an interesting assortment of spires, crags and ridges. Because the routes are bolted, beginner climbers can have as much fun as more advanced climbers. There are routes to challenge all levels and abilities of climbers. The friendly atmosphere at the lodge means that after a day of hard climbing you can chill and mingle with the other visitors to the crags.

Hiking and Canyoneering

Hiking is sometimes thought of as a more sedate sport; however, with the wild and challenging terrain in some parts of Mexico it can easily be classified as an extreme adventure sport, especially when it is combined with canyoneering. The Barranca del Cobre, or Copper Canyon as it is more commonly known, is one of the largest and deepest canyon systems in the world. The unusual rock formations, stunning vistas and extreme temperatures make this a premiere adventure sport destination. Exciting hiking and canyoneering tours can be booked through professional operators.

Visiting the Mayan ruins is an opportunity to hike through some of Mexico’s most beautiful rainforest reserves. Guided tours provide history on the special cultural sites and en route you can see a wide variety of birds and other forest creatures.

Oaxaca is another area known for its spectacular hiking routes. The Northern Sierra Mountains are reputed to be one of the most well preserved natural regions in Mexico. The trails traverse through rainforests and take in spectacular views. Rapelling is also offered and makes a nice addition to any hiking trip to the area.

Mountain Biking

If you are looking for some moderate trails, there are some superb routes just inland of the famous Yucatan coastline. Tours range from short day trips to longer multiday trips taking you to explore some of the Mayan ruins and other historical sites and places of interest. For hardcore mountain bikers, the gateway to Mexico’s best mountain biking region is the town of Chihuahua. From here, hundreds of miles of trails cross through the Copper Canyon area. Terrain varies from steep rocky ascents and descents to slick Moab-style climbs. Some guides that have worked in the region for more than 10 years say there are still so many unexplored routes. Their biggest problem when planning tours is deciding which routes to go on because there are simply too many to choose from.

Kiteboarding

Kiteboarding is a skill that takes some time to master but once most people have got it right they become hooked. With Mexico’s beautiful beaches, it’s no wonder that kiteboarders from around the world flock to areas such as Cancun, Merida, Tulum and Isla Blanca. The great surf, good winds and warm tropical water make it a kitesurfer’s paradise. Combine that with the vibrant beachfront lifestyle and it’s sure to be an awesome vacation.

Whitewater Rafting

There are many fantastic rivers for whitewater rafting in Mexico. You can do a single day or multi-day rafting trip riding the rapids of several rivers and visiting some interesting cultural sites in between. Near Mexico City, there is the Rio Fios with class III rapids; from there, you can move on to Xalapa where you can raft the Rio Antigua and the Rio Actopan which have both class III & IV rapids. The Santa Maria River in the northeastern part of Mexico also offers class III multi-day rafting trips. The river flows through an area known for its natural springs and beautiful waterfalls and the nearby towns have interesting markets well worth visiting.

When you think of Mexico, what comes to mind? You might think of the beautiful beaches and oceans or the warm weather and sunshine. While these are distinguishing features of the country, other equally intriguing and unusual attractions can be found in the southernmost part of Mexico in the Mexican Caribbean and the Riviera Maya.

This region of Mexico, steeped in Mayan culture, is known as the Yucatan Peninsula and comprises the Mexican states of Quintana Roo (where Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and the Riviera Maya are located), Campeche, and Yucatan. Teeming with tropical rainforests, jungles, mangroves, wildlife, and surface rivers that lead to the Caribbean Sea, this region also contains thousands of cenotes — fascinating natural phenomena.

One special place where you can find all these natural wonders is

Tres Ros Nature Park

Named after the three rivers (”tres ros”) winding across 326 acres of tropical rainforests, Tres Ros Nature Park http://www.haciendatresrios.com/riviera-maya/nature-park/ is a unique place where you can explore nature in its truest form. Whereas the typical eco theme parks provide commercialized vacation activities, Tres Ros offers travelers a more authentic nature experience without contrived tourist attractions.

At Tres Ros, nature activities include snorkeling and diving in one of ten accessible cenotes (cavernous sinkholes with natural wells), kayaking or swimming through mangrove-lined rivers that lead to the Caribbean Sea, guided nature tours through rainforests or the botanical garden and nursery that subsidizes reforestation, bicycling and hiking through the jungle, or taking a SenseAdventure journey. http://www.haciendatresrios.com/riviera-maya/nature-park/nature-park-activities/

Cenotes & Rivers

Here in the Yucatan Peninsula, naturally occurring wells or holes in the ground are known as cenotes, originally called “dzonot” in Mayan and later evolving into the word “cenote” by Spanish colonists. The captivating cenotes of the Yucatan Peninsula and the Riviera Maya evolved from many changes in the earth’s geology over thousands of years.

Before natural sea levels declined, the Yucatan Peninsula was once a coral reef in the sea that later died and formed a limestone platform. This thick limestone was gradually eroded by acid rain, developing large cavities or caves with stalactites, stalagmites, and columns. When the polar cap melted after the last ice age, these caves flooded and became underground rivers.

The caves that existed above sea level were only partially flooded by the melting polar cap, and their thin roofs eventually collapsed, resulting in freshwater wells called cenotes. These cenotes were a primary water source for the ancient Mayans who also considered them as sacred sites. Four types of cenotes exist: those that are completely underground, partially underground, at land level like lakes or ponds, and open wells that are below land level. Most cenotes range in depth from 16 to 20 feet (5-15 meters), and the water temperature is a refreshing 77 Fahrenheit (25 Centigrade). The fresh water is typically a clear, aquamarine color containing unusual fish and marine life, which makes them ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and diving.

The best news of all Access to this incredible nature park is an exclusive benefit only for guests of Hacienda Tres Ros Resort. http://www.haciendatresrios.com/riviera-maya/

Not everyone is familiar with Mexican car insurance and many questions arise as to what type of coverage to buy and where to buy it.

Please do your research and study all of the available material. A wide variety of coverages and plans are available to buy online. You can purchase a policy for as short as one day or as long as one year; many insurance companies will provide you with a discount if you purchase a longer period of time. Now, that might not be useful for you if you do not plan on returning during the next three hundred and sixty-five days, but if you do plan on returning it can be a big savings.

Please do your research and study all of the available material. A wide variety of coverages and plans are available to buy online.

Deductibles provided by a Mexican car insurance policy are handled quite a bit differently than they are in a United States insurance policy. A fixed deductible amount in the standard in the US, but that is not the case in Mexico. Mexican car insurance uses a variable deductible, usually somewhere between two and five percent of the value of the insured vehicle. That means that a vehicle with a value of twenty thousand dollars and a variable deductible of five percent would have an actual deductible of one thousand dollars. If you are not comfortable with a variable deductible you will have to do your homework, because fixed deductibles are available, but not widely available.

Coverages provided by split limits will reduce the amount of property insurance available. Be certain to purchase a combined single limit policy. Many insurance companies will use split limits, it is a way that they use to reduce payouts in the event of a claim. Because claims for pain and suffering are almost unheard of in Mexico most of the coverage should be for property damage.

There are many different companies that offer policies that can be purchased online, with a simple three step process. Quote, buy, print. Do some research and make sure that you are getting the coverage that you need. It is cheaper to pay more for the right coverage than to buy a cheap policy that doesn’t offer the protection that you need.

Nobody wants to have an accident, and that is why they are called accidents. Make sure that in the unfortunate circumstance that you are involved in an accident that you have the right coverages.

You know why they are called accidents: because nobody wants to have one. Accidents do happen, but you can minimize their effect on your life by having the right insurance.

It’s just obvious that there will be some differences between United States and Mexican car insurance policies, and I will try to list some of the differences here. However, before I do let me warn you not to confuse this with a complete list of all of the differences because there are just too many minor differences to list. I will list the major differences by type of insurance.

Now the very first coverage that will be addressed is Liability insurance. Unlike the United States, Mexican civil law, which is defined by statute and not case history is what determines liability. Some people think that this is great and others hate it; you can decide for yourself whether or not you like it. Under Mexican statute there is not redress for pain and suffering or emotional distress and therefore no liability for it. That means that claims are usually paid under the “Property Damage to Others” coverage or the “Bodily Injury” coverage, and all of these claims are adjusted on an actual cash value (acv) basis.

It is generally assumed (and assumed correctly) that Mexico does not have as many court cases and attorneys as the United States. Indeed it is uncommon to have a claim in excess of $100,000. Sometimes, with a very expensive car, Property Damage to Others claims will get near this limit, but it is not at all common to have a Bodily Injury claim that comes close to the $100,000 number.

If you have an “incident” in Mexico and a case is brought against you in the United States there will be no coverage for that claim under your Mexican insurance policy. Now, that might be obvious to some and not to others, but a liability insurance policy purchased from a Mexican insurer will only cover claims brought against you in Mexico.

Secondly, lets take a close look at car insurance. The various and sundry Mexican insurance companies offer quite a wide variety of rates, coverages, limits, and deductibles, and it only stands to reason that these are some of the things that you should pay attention to. The first thing is that you will always want a combined single limit coverage. Please do not accept coverage that offers a split limit because some insurance companies will reduce the amount payable in the event of a claim with the use of split limits. The standard used on a Mexican car policy is a combined single limit of one hundred thousand dollars. Once again, please stay away from split limits. Another very important coverage that many people don’t consider is Legal Aid and Travel Assistance, sometimes these are listed as as additional coverages, but they are essential, and without both of these coverages you will be paying your own legal expenses until liability is determined.

Lastly, a Mexican car policy excludes both Vandalism and Partial Theft. In the United States policies are generally “all risk” policies, but Mexican policies are “named perils” policies. These policies provide coverage for collision, fire, total theft, some natural occurrences, and other perils. In the United States we are used to a fixed deductible, but Mexican car polices will often have a deductible as a percentage of the value of the car insured.
