At home, we know which charities are dedicated to particular groups in need. If we want to support children’s education, we know where to send a donation. Travelers may be approached by beggars, particularly children or the elderly. In the face of such innocence and abject need, it can be very hard to resist the urge to give cash.

As the ‘rich tourist’ you will be seen as an easy target for charity, in particular, money. Do not give coin or cash to those who approach you. Instead, bring items from home like travel size toiletries, pencils, erasers, pads of paper, crayons, felt pens, or small packs of sweets. Some organizations advise against giving these sorts of things because the recipients may turn around and try to sell it rather than use it. While that is a valid point, it is a far better option than giving money. Choosing to give money to beggars not only shows them where you keep your money, but it also shows that you are carrying it in the first place – and therefore makes you a target for theft.

If you are still unsure about how to be charitable while on vacation in the Caribbean, do some research on local charities before leaving home. Investigate which organizations receive donations and distribute them to local families in need. If you wish to support schools or hospitals, try contacting local authorities for information on charitable donations. When it comes to Italian restaurants, New York City has some pretty amazing ones. Of course, it does not compete with the great cities of Italy, but it just may be the next best place. Regardless of the type of pasta you are looking for, there is somewhere to get it in New York.

While new restaurants will always be opening their doors, some pasta places will never lose their greatness. Here are my top five favorite places to get my pasta fix in New York City as of now.

I went out the other night for a friend’s birthday to Convivio, and decided this was my one of the best pasta places in all of the city. Located in Tudor City, Convivio is not a traditional pasta place with specials like gnochetti with crab and sea urchin.

When I want to have an epic Italian meal filled with some amazing ravioli and penne a la vodka, I go to Il Mulino. The original location of this increasingly popular franchise is unlike any other, and offers a true “old school” mafiosa Italian vibe.

No list of pasta places in New York City would be complete without mentioning a restaurant in Little Italy. If I’m looking for a great place to catch up with friends, we go to La Mela on Mulberry Street. Any place in Little Italy will get the trick done.

Located in the East Village, Barbone might be favorite place to go to on this list. It is a quiet, unassuming restaurant with fresh pastas made daily. The owner, Alberto, is a great guy and if you are visiting New York and want great food at an affordable price, this is a great spot.

Another place that is worth mentioning is Max. With three locations in the city, this place probably serves up the best pasta for the price. The portions are huge and you can get out of there for under $20.

One other place worth mentioning is Spina in the East Village. This place rolls their pasta fresh daily and has a constantly changing list of selections. A great place to try if you are in town looking for a cheaper option.

On the way to Santa Monica, one can enjoy the photogenic scenery of Mulholland Drive. Other popular attractions are theme parks, which include Disneyland, Universal Studios and California Adventure. Many choose to stay in downtown LA hotels, such as Ritz-Carlton LA Live, due to their proximity to restaurants, bars, and shops.

Santa Barbara is a city with a Mediterranean flavor: it has white sandy beaches, Spanish-styled architecture and delicious wine. The Santa Barbara Court House is a great place to admire architecture. Butterfly Beach and Hendry’s Beach are two popular beaches in the area, although there are ten overall. Wine tours are also prevalent. Many vineyards can be found in the Santa Ynez Valley.
