A List Of The Greatest Places To Bike

Biking is a great way to get around many cities throughout the world. There are some cities that are extremely conducive to this lifestyle and these cities provide a great experience for locals as well as tourists. This guide will share some of the best cities in the world for biking, in which provide a safe and beautiful ride.

Amsterdam, Netherlands is known as the bike capital of the world and this city is number one on my list. 40% of all the traffic in Amsterdam is by bike, which is greater than any city. This helps keep the residents fit and healthy.

The city provides bike sheds throughout the different neighborhoods. At one time there was a problem with theft, but this has solved that problem. These sheds are all protected by security. The cities train station is building more storage room for bikes that can keep up to 10,000 bikes! As a tourist, you’ll enjoy strolling around and checking all the fabulous experiences the culture of Amsterdam offers.

Number 2 on my list goes to Portland, Oregon. Biking has recently become more and more popular in this city. The city has created a network that connects different parts of the city and makes it easy to get around.

The city of Portland has recently implemented a program that gets low-income adults using free bikes. They even spend time teaching commuter safety to the participants. This city offers some of the prettiest off-road trails in the States. The streets are extremely safe as well, with many biker lanes and signals.

In this next city, almost everyone personally owns a bike. Copenhagen, Denmark has created an extremely successful system for bikers. For this reason, it was once called “the city of bikes.”

Copenhagen has spent a lot of money to make it more convenient and safer for bikers. It’s become so convenient that 30%+ ride their bikes to work. Surveys show that 50%+ of these riders ride to work because it’s so easy! One area of Copenhagen doesn’t even allow cars, which makes it great for commuting on a bike. For tourists (or locals), there are many areas to rent a bike for free, simply by leaving a deposit.

These are my three favorite cities for bikers. As a tourist, it makes it much easier to ride around given the sytstem these cities have set up. Hopefully you can enjoy biking through any of these great cities one day and fit in with the biking cultures that have been created!
