Depending on the location and the passenger’s familiarity (or lack thereof) with the destination, airport taxis can provide a warm welcome to a new city. Or it could turn into a horrible experience. There are, of course, ways of making sure that no taxi experience, regardless of location, is cause for discomfort.
For starters, do a little research about the destination and its taxis and taxi drivers before landing up at the airport. For instance, the black London taxis have been rated as the best in the world by repeated surveys over the years. London cabbies are unquestionably the friendliest in the world, and there should be no problem at either Heathrow or Gatwick.
New York, on the other hand, is a slightly different matter. New York’s yellow cabs are also rated highly, and passengers do get a smooth ride to their hotel from JFK or Newark or La Guardia. But there’s a bit of a question mark over tips and the cabbies’ attitude – not the friendliest in the world, to say the least.
Bottomline is that each destination has different rules, meter charge rates, and ways of getting taxis at airports. Most airports will have official taxis queued up awaiting passengers, and these are all quite safe and have a minimum common standard. For passengers who skip these queues and hail the first cab they see, things might turn out slightly different.
Airport taxis in all major cities usually have established rates for getting from the airport to the downtown area. It might be a good idea to be aware of these rates beforehand. Taxi drivers are adept at figuring out how to slap on a few extra bucks with a lengthy route, in case a passenger is not familiar with the destination.
It is even better to reserve a taxi beforehand. This makes sure there won’t be trouble finding a cab. It also ensures the rate will be standard, and there won’t be any fear of overcharging. Lastly, in case of other problems, such as theft or crime, the passenger won’t have to worry about not knowing the driver’s name or the number of the taxi.
As a final note, try to find green airport taxis whenever possible. Environmentally friendly travel is all the rage these days, and it’s not so hard to get a green taxi in any major city. Every taxi company has at least a few hybrids or electric vehicles in its fleet and one of these can be made available, provided there is sufficient advance notice.
Majority of the vehicles have air conditioning. The customer and drive negotiate the amount to be charged based on mileage. Taxis Stotfold The drivers are experienced, knowledgeable and professionals.
